Videocasting is compelling because you can illustrate points with a short demonstration that can be all but impossible to convey with still pictures and words. Further, it is nice that is in reach of a large number of people, not just those with thousands to spend on high end equipment.
Recently, we had the embarassment of discovering that recent versions of our MuscleVentures video podcast could not open on the ipod. I posted about it a couple of days ago. Well, I have the solution, and it comes from this article on the Apple site. Essentially, if you are going to produce mp4 files in Quicktime that you expect to play on the ipod, you need to follow the specifications at the bottom of the article exactly. In particular, you need to make sure that you are using the "baseline" profile.
Henceforth, our videos should play on the ipod. At least, they check out as doing so on my version of iTunes.
I'm probably going to write a series on video podcasting for the masses on my TheCommunityEngine site where I go into much more detail.
